catch up

since you likely missed my display of mussel (see how i did that?) sat night, i'll post tonight's dinner for now. you know me. i get all antsy and delete stuffs. and it really was a great twilight play by play, too...

we don't live in the past, though. we live in the now. so here 'tis:

Grilled Shrimp with Bean, Orange, and Avocado Salad
TIME: like none
SERVINGS: 4 (or two plus some for lunch tomorrow if you are a harper)

4 tsp extra virgin olive oil

1/3 cup orange juice

1/4 cup chopped cilantro

1 tsp ground cumin

24 peeled, deveined jumbo shrimp (about 1 lb)

1 can (15.5 oz) black beans, rinsed and drained

2 navel oranges, peeled, white membrane removed, sections halved (i used one chopped small)

1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper

1/4 cup chopped red onion

1 tsp chili powder

1 cup cubed avocado

1. Make dressing: Whisk oil, orange juice, cilantro, and cumin in small bowl. Transfer 1/4 cup dressing to large ziplock bag. Add shrimp and turn bag to coat. Refrigerate a bit.

2. Preheat grill to medium-high.

3. Add beans, oranges, bell pepper, and onion to bowl with remaining dressing. Toss to coat.

4. Thread shrimp onto 8 short skewers and sprinkle with chili powder. Grill 3 to 5 minutes, turning once, until shrimp are opaque in centers when split with knife. Remove from grill and drizzle with a few spoonfuls of dressing from bean salad.

5. Divide salad evenly among 4 serving plates. Top with 1/4 cup avocado cubes and serve with 2 shrimp skewers. Garnish with cilantro, if desired.

it makes teh yums. the hubs thought it looked nice and ate the shrimp.

laugh with me. and at me.

read until 3:30 last night (2:30 before time change). read two hours in the glorious march sun this morning. almost done. need to watch the movie this week! my plan is to read the next one (as i already have it, thanks jake!) then read 2 or 3 NON twilight books. gotta get myself off that junk.

luckily i have many great suggestions from you all. will report back.

aside: this is a funny and true review of twilight by roger ebert. and he says "fang job." heh.

you should probably use protection. i forgot. stupid book. stupid lovely sun.

also, do make say think (particularly The Universe, today) makes me infinitely happy. i should only be so lucky as to ever see them play live.

mark your place

is it bad that i am thoroughly enjoying twilight? just started it last night. my brother bought it for me, along with the second book as a christmas gift. i'll admit, i'm not much of a reader. and i've had sooooo many thoughts in my head about this series. it's for teenagers. it's for lonely old women. i don't want to get wrapped up in a series i have to keep up with. i never saw the movie.

and omg. how can it NOT be written for teenagers. it's told in the first person by a teenage girl. it's like 8th grade reading level and then random SAT words thrown in like dubious and sedulous. lame. but i can. not. stop. reading.

thoughts?

also, you should probably tell me what you are reading. let's make recommendations to one another. the last book i read was revolutionary road which was superbly written (in the 50's) and is even better if you have not seen the movie.

also, i'm twittering. and spent 30 minutes today reading other people's posts. lame. but i think twitter would be good for some of you reluctant bloggers (cough, joey, cough, harper). just wish texting charges didn't apply. as i'm trying to blog less, i plan to twitter more from online. i get the talking about me accomplished without the long rambling post....see? look how books turned in to me.

heart you. homemade pizza and movies with the hubs tonight. he (adorably) picked out (the original) italian job and the french connection from netflix. we're getting in our movie classics and cheese quota for the weekend.

relax

project over. and it was a success. i haven't heard the official compliment from my boss but everyone else had great things to say. i did it! it's done. now all my other press conferences have to live up to this one. gah! i'm a big fan of setting the bar too high for myself. but with my performance appraisal coming up..... this week has actually been a huge success on the media coverage front. just hope my boss remembers when times are more lean....

anyway, here's what i've been promoting this week.

nothing you should probably do....just take it easy. i'm thinking a pedicure (for the foot massage and massage chair, really, carbonara and vino are in order. a kiss from the hubs would be great, too.

have a good night, loves.

smile and say thank you

or blush...

just walked in to another office and a guy said, "i'm liking the new look!" "what new look?" i asked. "i don't know...but i've noticed lately you have a new look. a happy look. like you're in love or something!"

heee!

"well, thank you!" i said. "i am in love. every day. i'm a lucky girl."

ah, mer!

i also got my bangs trimmed (shout out lwilson!)...maybe he was referring to that? neh. it was a love face. heart you shmoops.

you should probably tell me the best compliment you've had this week. here's hoping i get one tomorrow after a successful press conference (knockonwoodcrossfingersholdbreathpray)

leave gp alone

oh man....oh man...i'm sure you've seen lots on the "news" pages mocking gwyneth paltrow. they weren't the first, but it started with this new york times article which was a review of "two lovers" I THINK but mainly trashed her web site and e-newsletter GOOP. which i adore. sure, sure...some weeks she talks about the places in paris you MUST stay or eat. um, no. but the weeks where she gives recipes (which i believe she makes) or gives thoughts from herself and (high profile) friends on love, life, parenthood, health and more...are enjoyable.
it's no lie that i'm a gp fan. i too plan to be in my thirties with oddly named children a rock star husband living in england with time to cook and work out two hours a day with a personal trainer. so you know...i can relate to her. so, nyt....you should probably leave my girl alone.
and you should probably subscribe to her weekly newsletter here: GOOP.com
it's strange. some weeks i get an email of the newsletter and some weeks i have to check the web site. but do both. i'd rather (and rather you) want to be like gp than...who? rhianna? lauren conrad?
bite me.
