Clean eating week is about $50 more than normal groceries. But half the cart was produce. Trade off for health?

*organic apples from new zeland won for most miles traveled to my belly.

  1. This is something that I despise, and that I really have a problem with in our society. WHY DO VEGIES cost more than CRAP??? Why can I buy 6 bags of Doritos, or 6 dollar-menu meals at McDonalds for about 1/3 of the price of healthy veggies and fruits and organic things? While I know you pay for quality, for freshness, etc.... This is why Americans are fat. Because it's cheaper to buy crap than to buy healthy things.
You're making the right decision. Even if it's expensive.

  2. there's also the "anti-clean" aspect in that half the produce i bought today came from canada, mexico or further (chilean grapes?) bc i didn't want to drive all over town to track down the local stuff. and frankly grapes, apples, etc AREN'T in season so I shouldn't buy it = the environmental toll of trucking and manufacturing so i could have said grapes for me "clean" eating. grapes- better on my body than cheetos. grapes being shipped in from chile- trade off fair? luckily june means even more stuff availabel at the farmers markets.

    life is hard :)

  5. I don't even know where most of my stuff comes from, and I turn off the alarm every Saturday morning so we miss the farmer's market. Locavore fail.
